SACES Newsletters

Welcome to the SACES Newsletter!

This is an official publication by the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (SACES), a region of ACES.

Each newsletter issue follows a specific theme based on the SACES acronym:

  • Scholarship: encourage, support, and recognize a diverse range of scholarship and research

  • Advocacy: advocate for the profession and inspire a commitment to social justice

  • Community: promote connection, leadership, and service within the profession

  • Education: foster best practices in teaching and professional development

  • Supervision: advance the theory and practice of counselor supervision

If you are unsure what topics we publish and/or need guidance on how manuscripts are structured, then please review past issues of the Newsletter. Feel free to contact us at newsletter@saces.org.

Thank you,

John Harrichand, Katherine McVay, & Rebecca Gill

Updated SACES Newsletter Policies: Effective November 2025

  • SACES Newsletter: AI Policy

In following the lead of our parent body, ACES, the SACES Newsletter Editorial Board will screen all accepted briefs for generative technology. The editors understand that no AI detection software is perfect. At the same time, we see that AI-generated content is becoming more common, and there are more cases of AI-assisted plagiarism. Thus, we require that all authors of Newsletter submissions inform the editorial team (newsletter@saces.org) if, where, and for what purpose they have used AI-assisted technology to generate content in submitted articles. Articles that utilize generative technologies to create their summaries without prior notification to the editorial team may face rejection. Authors whose work includes approved AI-generated content will be required to indicate the use and location of this content in their author’s note.

  • SACES Author Publication Policy Update

To ensure that our newsletter includes a variety of perspectives and voices, we are implementing a new authorship policy. Starting this fiscal year (Fall 2025-Spring 2026), individuals can be listed as the first author a maximum of two times per fiscal year (Fall-Summer semesters).

This policy aims to provide opportunities for a broader range of contributors while still emphasizing high-quality submissions.
