Call for Proposals

The call for proposals and reviewers is closed.

The SACES Executive Committee is pleased to announce the call for proposals for the 2022 SACES Conference will be held IN PERSON in November 3-5, 2022, in Baltimore, MD. We invite proposals for the conference that address all areas of counseling, counselor education, and supervision.

Pre-conference sessions and the Emerging Leaders Workshop will occur on Thursday (11/3), with a welcoming reception Thursday evening. The conference educational sessions will run on Friday (11/4) and Saturday (11/5) from 8 am to 5pm.

Presenters: when reviews are completed, you may edit your proposal as allowed; all presenters will be notified by 4/15/22 and must register by 8/1/22. Presenters are encouraged to create their presentations with consideration for ADA accommodation.

Electronic Program Proposal Format

  • Program Title
    Your title should clearly and accurately describe the focus of your presentation (max 100 characters with spaces)

  • Type of Session and Format Flexibility
    • 50-minute Content Sessions
    • 50-minute Roundtable discussion (pre-recorded, virtual format)
    • 50-minute Posters Sessions
    • 25-minute Express Sessions (Empirically based research, two presenters max)

  • Primary Topic Addressed (based primarily on NBCC categories)
    • Assessment
    • Career development and counseling
    • Counseling specialty areas
      (e.g., addictions; clinical mental health; rehabilitation; college counseling & student affairs; marriage, couple, & family; school counseling; CE&S doctoral programs)
    • Counseling theory/practice
    • Teaching and learning
    • Counselor professional identity and practice issues
      (e.g., supervision, ethics, personal career development, leadership & advocacy, gatekeeping, mentoring)
    • Group dynamics and counseling
    • Human growth and development
    • Research and program evaluation
    • Social and cultural foundations
    • Wellness and prevention
    • Other (specify)

  • Presenter Information and Qualifications
    Name, highest degree earned, licensure/certification, institutional affiliation, primary mailing address, email, and phone (for all presenters)

  • Presenter Expertise Provide the collective experience related to the proposed session (max 1500 characters) and Select all from the following :
    • Presented on this topic at regional or national conference
    • Invited speaker or trainer on this topic
    • Authored or co-authored a peer-reviewed article on this topic
    • Published a book or (co)authored a book chapter on this topic
    • Taught or currently teach a course related to this topic
    • Worked or currently work with clients impacted by this topic

  • Conference Program Abstract
    This will appear in the conference PDF program and conference app (max 500 characters).

  • Synopsis of Program
    Include overview of rationale, content, and presentation format (max 1500 characters).

  • Learning Objectives
    Provide three objectives attendees can expect as a result of participating in your program; they must be relevant to the work of professional counselors, supervisors, and counselor educators. They will be available to participants (max 500 characters).

  • Session Level
    • Beginner level (explores introductory concepts and skills),
    • Intermediate level (expands on introductory knowledge, skills, and competencies),
    • Advanced level (requires prerequisite knowledge, preparation, and experience)

  • Presenter Agreement
    You must agree to the following:
    • Individuals' names may only appear on two presentations, whether you are lead presenter or co-presenter.
    • All presenters will be available to present Friday 11/4/22 and Saturday 11/5/22 from 8 AM - 5 PM and must be SACES members through the conference.
    • SACES will provide one LCD projector/screen combo in each content presentation room. Any other A/V needs (e.g., Computer VGA/HDMI adapters, Internet access, DVD/CD players, televisions, etc.) are the responsibility of the presenter.
    • All presenters must register by 8/1/22 to appear in the conference materials, including the conference website, PDF of the conference program, and conference app.
    • Presenters will make your presentation and related handouts available to participants in the conference app within one week of the conference.
    • You have reviewed the SACES registration cancellation policy. Please note, cancellations received after the PDF program and conference app has been released/posted may result in a presenter/proposal disqualification for the next SACES conference.
    • All presenters must be active SACES members by 8/1/22 and remain active through the conference. Proposals with inactive members will be cancelled.

Rating Criteria

Proposals will be blind-reviewed and rated on the following review criteria:

  • Clear rationale for program
  • Clearly stated and appropriate learning objectives
  • Appropriate content and format
  • Overall organization and clarity
  • Relevance of topic to SACES membership
  • Appropriate fit with program tracks
  • Attention to cultural and ethical considerations
  • Relevant presenter credentials

Timeline

  • 1/15/22 – Submission portal open
  • 3/1/22 – Deadline for submissions
  • 5/1/22 – Decision and Scheduling notification
  • 6/1/22- Deadline to make Proposal Changes
  • 8/1/22- Deadline for presenters and co-presenters to register; all presenters must register by this date and attend the conference to be included in the conference program
Presenters are also expected to follow the presenter guidelines for accessibility and inclusion.

CALL FOR PROPOSAL REVIEWERS

The SACES Executive Committee would like to invite you to become a proposal reviewer. You will have the opportunity to indicate your interest in serving as a reviewer at the end of the proposal submission process or by completing an application here. All conference proposals undergo a double-blind review.  Each reviewer must be available to evaluate submissions between 3/1/22 and 4/1/22 and be willing to complete at least 20 proposals.
